Tonight Syfy airs episode eight of its popular series 12 Monkeys. In the episode, in order to stop time from being destroyed, Jones (Barbara Sukowa) sends Cassie (Amanda Schull) back in time to kill her in 2020, so that she can never create a time machine. Cassie is soon joined by Cole (Aaron Stanford), trying to stop her. The two get stuck in a sort of time loop/reboot and must figure out what to do to get back to 2044.

Last month when I talked to Stanford about the season, we talked specifically about tonight's episode, including filming the time loop, and Cassie and Ramse (Kirk Acevedo)'s possible plans moving forward.

I know that normally when you film something you do a bunch of takes for different angles and shots and things. So I was curious, in the eighth episode, "Lullaby," the sort of Groundhog Day type episode, did they just use multiple takes you had shot, or was there a bunch more different takes, each slightly different? And if so, does it make it more tedious, or does it make it easier with so many options, just from an acting standpoint?

That episode in particular? Yeah it was. I'm trying to think back. It was even more tedious and repetitive, although I hate to use the word tedious. What I'm remembering is a specific sequence that we shot in that episode. So basically, Cassie and Cole, every time they reset they wake up on the bank of this little river, and that was the one most repetitive sequence of the episode.

Every time they screw up, bang; they wake up they're on the bank. And we had to do it over and over and over and over and over again. That's all that we shot I think for almost one entire day, just these repetitive sequences where like, boom; wake up. We'd argue or come up with a plan or whatever, and we cut and boom; wake up and boom; wake up.

And what was really difficult was, each time we get reset, we have to be in worse shape physically, because the process is tearing our bodies apart, and so it had to be progressive. So each time we did it, we had to figure out, 'all right, how are we going to communicate that they're in even worse shape this time than they were last time?'

And we did so many of them that, you know, the first time you do it, aw you have a headache, you know, your head hurts and your nose is bleeding.' And second time it's got to be more. So the second time, aw you're on your knees this time, and, you know, you can't balance right. And the next time you're vomiting, and the next time you're just flat on the ground. And then what do you do the next three times? [laughs] Like we sort of like very nearly ran out of ground, like how much worse can this get? The next scene is going to be us like in pieces on the ground. [laughs] So yeah, it was a challenge.

At the end of episode eight, Cassie has that conversation with Ramse. Things are not going the way they want necessarily, and things have changed a lot. Is there anything that you can tease about that part of it going forward? I got the opinion that they maybe have a separate agenda that may not be in alignment with Cole's and everyone else's.

I think there's never been any love lost between the two of them. They've always been in separate camps. But they both have a similar grievance now, and I think they've both decided that maybe they don't agree with the direction Cole is taking the mission in. And it's like they say, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. So it looks as if the two of them might become unlikely partners.

So could that mean that maybe Cole and Deacon (Todd Stashwick) might come together a bit more? He now respects Cole more because of what he did to him, could there be a possibility where there would be a split: Ramses and Cassie versus Cole and Deacon?

There's always a possibility for everything, but I think the territory we're heading into now, is just asking what's going to happen. So I don't really want to spoil the surprise for you.
