Today Madame Web was released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. The Marvel heroine origin story follows Cassandra Web (Dakota Johnson), a paramedic in Manhattan, who after a brush with death discovers she has clairvoyant abilities and must face revelations from her past. Saving three young women, Julia (Sydney Sweeney), Anya (Isabela Merced), and Mattie (Celeste O’Connor), who are destined to become heroines of their own, Cassandra uses her power to see the future to try to alter their fates, protecting them from a deadly adversary (Tahar Rahim) who has powers of his own.

It was nice to see a Marvel superhero film led by female heroines, and I appreciated the exploration of Cassandra’s powers, especially since they were mental abilities rather than physical ones. The filmmakers did a good job of showing visually how she could see the different possible future timelines and would alter them. I also enjoyed how the story was split between three different timelines and how it was told. Overall, the script was well written and kept me engaged throughout.

The visuals were also excellent, as to be expected from such a film, and it had many exciting special effects and action sequences. There was also a good bit of web imagery in cracks in glass and things which I thought helped to tie everything together. I also was pleased with the costumes the four women wore in the future, even if the glimpses were brief, but I think more than that might have been too much.

Based on the novel by M.O. Walsh of the same name, The Big Door Prize, starring Chris O’Dowd takes place in a small town where everyone’s lives are changed when a machine appears in a grocery store that seems to be able to predict someone’s “Life Potential.” In season two, the Morpho machine readies everyone for the “next stage,” and their potentials are exchanged for visions, leaving them just as mystified as ever. After receiving their results, Dusty and Cass (Gabrielle Dennis) decide to take some time apart, while others find new love. Meanwhile, Hana (Ally Maki) and Father Reuben try to uncover the true purpose of the Morpho machine.

Recently, Dennis and Maki, as well as showrunner and executive producer David West Read, spoke with SciFi Vision about season two, if the series makes them think of their own roads not taken, and more.

Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, the sequel to Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire, premiered Friday on Netflix. The film was directed by Zack Snyder and written by Snyder, Shay Hatten, and Kurt Johnstad. Part two takes place on the moon of Veldt where Kora (Sofia Boutella) and the surviving fighters help defend their new home against the Motherworld. Before their enemies arrive to stop the rebellion, each of the warriors must face the truth of their past, including Titus (Djimon Hounsou), who returns, among other cast, for the second film.

Recently, Hounsou spoke with SciFi Vision about working on the film, what’s next for his character, the physicality of the role, and more.

The Spiderwick Chronicles, which is based on the book series of the same name by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, premiered Friday on The Roku Channel. The series tells the story of the Grace family, including Helen (Joy Bryant), her fraternal twin boys Jared (Lyon Daniels) and Simon (Noah Cottrell), and her daughter, Mallory (Mychala Lee) who have moved from their home in New York and into their ancestral home, the Spiderwick Estate, in Michigan. It’s at the estate that Jared discovers a boggart (voiced by Jack Dylan Grazer) and realizes the truth: magical creatures are real. The only one to believe him, however, is his great-aunt Lucinda (Charlayne Woodward). She sends him to find the missing pages from her father’s field guide to magical creatures to keep it safe from the ogre, Mulgarath (Christian Slater), and his fetch, Calliope (Alyvia Alyn Lind). 

Recently, Lind and Grazer spoke with SciFi Vision about their work on the series, including what Lind thought about working with her costar Slater and what it was like for Grazer doing just the voice. 

The second part of Rebel Moon, The Scargiver, premiered Friday on Netflix. The film, directed by Zack Snyder, continues the epic story of Kora (Sofia Boutella) and the other surviving fighters, as they prepare to sacrifice everything they hold dear, in order defend Veldt, their new home, against the Motherworld. Each of the warriors must face the truth of their pasts before the opposition arrives to stop the growing rebellion. Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein), who Kora thought dead at the end of the last film, returns for battle. Also returning is Fra Fee as Balisarius, in addition to other cast members from the first film. 

Recently, Skrein and Fee spoke with SciFi Vision about the second film, including Skrein’s nude scenes in the chrysalis and Fee’s character’s motivation.

Today, Going Home with Tyler Cameron premieres on Prime Video. The series stars former heartthrob from The Bachelorette, Tyler Cameron, as he takes on a new career, staring his own construction and home renovation company. After Cameron’s mother passed, the reality tv star returned to his hometown of Jupiter, Florida to reunite with his family and also reach his goal of creating the company, Image One. Joining Cameron on his renovation team is house-flipper Robb Ritch and interior designer, Jessica Quintero. Other reality tv stars from The Bachelorette also make appearances during the season. 

The series will follow Cameron through challenges of home renovation and building his new company, culminating in turning Cameron’s late mother’s home into one she dreamed of.
