The latest mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES captured the attention of tens of millions of viewers around the world with its record-setting, two-night return to FOX last week. Premiering within 24 hours on FOX in the U.S. and 80 countries internationally, Chris Carter’s iconic series delivered more than 50 million viewers, and set new ratings records in multiple markets.

This Monday The X-Files takes a comedic turn as “Mulder & Scully Meet the Were-monster.” The duo is called in to investigate what may be a serial killer, an animal attack, or something else altogether when witnesses claim they saw a monster.

The episode, written brilliantly by Darin Morgan, is a step back into the quirky and silly episodes of the original. The series was always able to poke fun of itself in the best ways. The episode is not only a throwback to the original series as it is filled with references and injokes, but an excellent story in its own right.

Recently Freeform (previously ABC Family) premiered it's new series Shadowhunters, based on characters from the book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. The series follows Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara), who discovers that she is part of a long line of half-human half-angel demon hunters called Shadowhunters. She, along with her mundane, or human, friend, Simon Lewis, played by Alberto Rosende, are pulled into this new and dangerous world.

Recently, Rosende talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview about his work on the series.

The actor became a fan of The Mortal Instruments book series after having started reading them for his audition. "I originally intended only to read the first one before the audition to kind of understand who Simon was in the world, but a funny thing happened; my audition got pushed a week back. So I had an extra week, and I'd already finished the first book, so I decided to keep reading, and then I finished the second one. So by the time I got to the audition, I was already half way through the third book. I just kept burning through them after that. I finished them about four episodes into the show; I finished all six."

The X-Fies returns with a monster-of-the-week for it's second episode of the season. This episode, which is about eugenics and psychokinesis, fits into the classically creepy episodes that the show is known for. That being said, it does bring in some connections with the mythology, which I appreciated, such as talking about alien-human hybrids, and of course the discussion of William.

There were a lot of good moments in the episode. One that sticks out is Skinner helping the agents out, telling them that it will take awhile to close out the case, basically giving them more time before the DOD will put a stop to their investigation.

I've already posted a spoiler-free review of the episode, but now that it's aired I wanted to include some more specific thoughts before moving onto the full recap below, which includes quotes.

Even after seeing the premiere episode a couple times by this point, I still loved the episode, and there is a lot to love about it. The main thing is that "My Struggle" really makes you stop and think. I love how it completely twists a lot of the mythology on its ear. I'm still thinking about it. I'm not entirely sure what to even think completely yet, however. It's hard to reconcile that I have followed nine years' worth of a story that may turn out to be untrue, and that aliens were never even part of the conspiracy. Yet at the same time, that's what the plot has always done, twist and turn. We still don't even really know if the new information Mulder has found is true, but even if it is, who's to say that a lot of the characters besides just Mulder and Scully weren't also in the dark about what truly happened? They could have been lied to as well. It just adds a lot to think about, which is what this show is great at doing.

Tuesday Syfy premieres the first two episodes of its new series, based on the New York Times best-selling book series of the same name by Lev Grossman. The series follows Quentin Coldwater, played by Jason Ralph, as he puts away his fantasy novel obsession to move on to graduate school and adulthood. Quentin, however, is suddenly whisked away to the secret New York university, Brakebills University for Magical Pedagogy, where he learns that not only is magic real, but the fantasy world in his beloved books, Fillory, might be as well, and his own world is in danger.

In preparation for the premiere, executive producer Sera Gamble and star Jason Ralph recently talked to the media about the new series.

Ralph told SciFi Vision that he read the books and really enjoyed them. "I read them during the audition process, and before it ended, I had become a very quick and very rabid fan."

Sunday marks the long-awaited return to television of the hugely popular series The X-Files. The series follows FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), who work in the X-Files division solving cases of the unexplained.

In preparation for the premiere, series creator and executive producer Chris Carter talked to the press earlier today about what fans can expect.

Carter talked to SciFi Vision about Scully's decision to give up her son William for adoption in the original series and how that affects her and Mulder moving forward. "If you remember, they gave up William to protect him. They were afraid that with his whereabouts known, meaning if either one of them would have him, that they would be better to give him up and not know his whereabouts so they couldn't be tortured into giving him up.

"So obviously William is all important, not just to them, but to others. And he will play an important part in [two episodes], but I think he always, even [when] he's not in the show per se, an absent presence."

He also added later in the call, that although William does not appear present day in the series, "He is certainly important to the arc of these stories moving forward."

I was lucky enough to be able to see the episode back when it premiered at NYCC in October. These were my original reactions.

Sunday night FOX kicks off the premiere of the highly-anticipated return of The X-Files six episode event immediately following the NFC Championship Game. Stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return as FBI special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully to solve cases of the unexplained, in the episode "My Struggle."

Being such a huge fan back when the original series aired, I was excited to see what the new series had in store, yet a bit trepidatious about it living up to the original. I was not disappointed.

SYFY ANNOUNCES PREMIERE DATES FOR 12 MONKEYS & HUNTERS

LOS ANGELES – January 14, 2016 – Syfy has announced the premiere dates for the first season of HUNTERS and the second season of 12 MONKEYS, both produced by Universal Cable Productions (in association with Valhalla Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment, respectively).

In HUNTERS, when Baltimore FBI agent Flynn Carroll’s (Nathan Phillips, “Wolf Creek”) wife goes missing, his search leads him to a highly-classified government organization – the Exo-Terrorism Unit (ETU) – who track and fight alien terrorists.  Britne Oldford (“American Horror Story”) plays Regan, a valuable ETU operative keeping secrets of her own. The gritty sci-fi thriller also stars Julian McMahon (“Nip/Tuck”) as the dangerously unhinged terrorist, McCarthy.  The 13-episode first season debuts Monday, April 11 at 10PM ET/PT.

HUNTERS is from executive producers Gale Anne Hurd (“The Walking Dead,” “The Terminator Trilogy”) and Natalie Chaidez (“12 Monkeys,” “Heroes”), who will also serve as showrunner, and Emile Levisetti (“Royal Pains”). The series is inspired by best-selling author Whitley Strieber’s novel, Alien Hunter.

Syfy’s critically-acclaimed time-travel thriller 12 MONKEYS will return for a second season on Monday, April 18 at 9PM ET/PT. This all-new 13-episode season will air Mondays, with Aaron Stanford (James Cole), Amanda Schull (Dr. Cassandra Railly), Kirk Acevedo (Ramse), Emily Hampshire (Jennifer Goines), Barbara Sukowa (Katarina Jones) and Todd Stashwick (Deacon) reprising their roles.

USA NETWORK ANNOUNCES SERIES PICK-UP FOR ‘FALLING WATER’

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA -- January 14, 2016 -- USA Network announced a series pick-up from executive producers Gale Anne Hurd (“The Walking Dead”) of Valhalla Entertainment, Blake Masters (“Brotherhood”) and the late Emmy Award-winner Henry Bromell (“Homeland”) for the drama, FALLING WATER.  The pilot was written and co-created by Masters and Bromell and is from Universal Cable Productions (UCP).  Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (“28 Weeks Later”) directed the pilot and will also executive produce the series.  Bromell and Masters previously teamed up on “Brotherhood” and “Rubicon.”  David Ajala (“Fast & Furious 6”), Will Yun Lee (“Hawaii 5-0”) and Lizzie Brochere (“American Horror Story: Asylum”) are set to star in the series.
