Tuesday ABC Family (soon to be Freeform) premieres it's new series Shadowhunters, based on the bestselling book series, The Mortal Instruments, by Cassandra Clare. The series takes place in modern day New York and follows Clary Fray, played by Katherine McNamara, who discovers that she is not who she thought was. There is a world hidden beyond our own that she has been made to forget. She comes from a family of Shadowhunters, half-human half-angel hybrid demon hunters. When her mother (Maxim Roy) is kidnapped, she, along with her best friend Simon (Alberto Rosende), are pulled into this new world. With the help of fellow Shadowhunters Jace (Dominic Sherwood), Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia), and Alec (Matthew Daddario), they must not only try to save her mother and recover her memories, but also stop demons and other supernatural creatures from destroying everything.

As a fan of the book series, and knowing that the story was previously released as a movie, I wasn't sure what to expect. Certain aspects for the series had been changed from the start - for example, the character of Luke (Isaiah Mustafa) is a detective in television show rather than a book store owner, which will I'm sure add a different spin. There are also some new characters coming to the series as well.

13-Episode Season Debuts With Two-Episode Premiere on Syfy Monday, January 25 at 9 PM

NEW YORK – January 8, 2016 – Syfy today announced that the first episode of its highly-anticipated series THE MAGICIANS will be available on Syfy.com and On Demand cable, satellite and telco TV platforms starting Friday, January 8. The episode will also be available on Facebook, YouTube, Perk TV and Roku the week of January 11. The series, from Universal Cable Productions, will debut on Syfy with a two-episode premiere on Monday, January 25 at 9PM ET/PT.

On Monday, January 25th, Syfy will premiere the first two episodes of it's new series, The Magicians, based on the New York Times best-selling book series by Lev Grossman. The series follows Quentin Coldwater (Jason Ralph), a nerdy fan of fantasy novels, who decides he must grow up and move on as he faces grad school, but instead ends up at a secret New York university, Brakebills University for Magical Pedagogy. He gets more than he bargained for when he leaves behind his friends to discover that magic is not only real, but so may be the world he and his friends have been reading about since childhood, and their own world may be in danger.

The first episode pulls you in quickly as Quentin, who's always felt out of place, discovers Brakebills and realizes that his life is about to change. He must prove that he has what it takes to become a magician and navigate this new world, which isn't all fun and games; magic proves that it can have dire consequences.

SYFY RENEWS THE EXPANSE FOR SECOND SEASON

NEW YORK – December 31, 2015 – Syfy announced today that it has renewed its critically-acclaimed series THE EXPANSE for a second season. The 13-episode second season from Alcon Television Group is expected to air in early 2017.

Childhood’s End, an adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s novel of the same name, premieres over three consecutive nights on Syfy, starting December 14th. The miniseries follows what happens when aliens take over earth to bring peace, health, and security. But is there a price to pay?

Recently, stars Mike Vogel and Yael Stone, along with executive producer Matthew Graham, talked to the media about the new show.

The group talked to SciFi Vision about reading and researching the original novel.

Vogel read the book after getting the role. “Initially, I did not realize the full weight of the project that I was committing to until I was on an airplane headed to Australia. Just because everything happened quite quickly, and as I started, you know, researching the book, and researching the history and the sort of the position that Childhood’s End held in the eyes and the viewpoint, to think of the fan base, I went, “Oh man, wow, this is a big commitment.”

Fear the Walking Dead, which premiered on AMC this summer, is a spin-off of the network's hit series The Walking Dead; however, you don't have to have seen the original to enjoy this series. Fear starts off as a sort of prequel, taking place during the time leading up to and during the early days of the apocalypse, though how the rest of the series will be paced in relation to the original series' time line remains unknown.

The series, set in Los Angeles, depicts what happens when the zombie apocalypse first breaks out, and how people react.
