On Gotham, Pertwee plays Alfred Pennyworth, butler to the Wayne's Family. After the elder Waynes' death, he took over the role of protecting their son, Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), who would later grow up to be Batman.

As part of the Wizard World Convention in Pittsburgh, Sean Pertwee took time to talk with Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview

The actor loves everything about working on the series. "Everything. I mean, it's the type of show, I've said this before, that would irritate me if I wasn't actually being involved in it. I love opening every new script, because it's like Christmas comes early every year. Because we don't even really know what's happening until we've actually opened the next script. I love working with David Mazouz, who plays Master Bruce, who's a superlative actor, as is the rest of our company. We're a very tight knit unit now; we're very fond of each other. Going to work is a dream really, and the thing is, it's very rare that you are actually in show where the only frustrating thing is that you're actually not working everyday. It really is like that, and that's the atmosphere on set."

Pertwee was pleased that they've hit all the main points from Alfred's original backstory on the series when creating the character. "I'd love to say it was all down to me, but really it was sort of the genius of the guiding hands of our showrunners Bruno Heller, Danny Cannon, John Stephens, and the rest of them. I of course had my interpretation, which I presented to Bruno, actually on the very first day of filming, and I was quite relieved and pleased to hear and to see that when I went back to the books and back to the literature we'd hit all the important bullet points about this character.

"Of course that his father used to work for the Waynes, Jarvis, when I was working for the S.A.S.,when I came to aid my ailing father when he passed away, and then I took the mantle of being the valet, butler, duster, cooker, chef - everything for the Wayne's family, took over the gauntlet, and therefore inherited the son, being the only person that Thomas Wayne could trust."

He really enjoys working on the series, and the only thing that really is difficult is the temperature extremes. "The only thing that's challenging, and this sounds like a ridiculous statement, but it would be the heat or the cold. That's the only challenging thing. Because I normally stand in a three-piece suit in front of a fire place. It was 100 degrees in the studio yesterday; it's a little warm. Or the freezing cold when you're outside in New York, as you know; it can be pretty bleak. And we had a very bleak winter last year, and I think we've got another one coming. But that's the only one; that's the only bad thing."
