On Tuesday, March 22nd, Stitchers returns for it's second season on Freeform, the new name for ABC Family. The series follows a secret government program where they "stitch," someone into the memories of the recently deceased. Having had devastating consequences in the past, they recruit grad student Kirsten Clark, who has temporal dysplasia, which means she doesn't perceive the passage of time and doesn't process emotions, which makes her the perfect candidate. When Kirsten is stitched, she is able to use the memories of the dead to help solve mysteries and murders.

Other members of the team include neuroscientist Cameron Goodkin (Kyle Harris), who guides the stitches, communications technician Linus Ahluwalia (Ritesh Rajan), Kirsten's friend Camille Engelson (Allison Scagliotti), who also works for the program, and head of the department, Maggie Baptiste (Salli Richardson-Whitfield).

At the end of season one, Cameron had stopped his heart so that Kirsten could stitch into his memories to learn the identity of Detective Fisher (Damon Dayoub)'s shooter. On the season premiere on Tuesday, after Kirsten successfully brings Cameron back, she has the unexpected side effect of her temporal dysplasia being gone, and her emotions come flooding back.

Stars Ishta and Harris talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision earlier in the week for an exclusive interview about what's coming up in season two.

SCIFI VISION: It was previously thought that Kirsten was the only one who was able to stitch because of her temporal dysplasia. Now that she's lost it after stitching into Cameron, she is still able to stitch. Is that something that is going to be addressed, and does that mean that there could be a possibility of other characters stitching in the future?

KYLE HARRIS: Yeah, that's definitely something that they've keyed as far as like, 'will this be an option in the future,' but, you know, as of now we've come to learn that the lab is tuned to Kirsten's brain, so it's kind of the technology adjusts accordingly, essentially to justify her still being able to go in and do what she does.

And I think it was a matter at first of her having this ability, but now it's more also I think a talent at this point too, but I think Emma can comment more on that.

EMMA ISHTA: I think what you are saying is right. The way they really explained it to us, is it's just built for her. The technology was built for her by her parents, so it's built to work with her brain, and that's really the reason why she's able to stitch, not her temporal dysplasia, which was what they thought it was at first, but it's because it was actually built for her brain.

SCIFI VISION: At the end of last season, when Kirsten stitched into Cameron, she became aware of his feelings for her. We know that that stitch cured Kirsten, and now she's dealing with her own emotions. Also, Cameron now has a new lease on life after essentially dying. Can you talk about how these changes will affect their relationship? Are they ready to move forward?

HARRIS: I think now that Cameron's made that ultimate sacrifice for Kirsten and the team, he just has a new take on life, like he has nothing else to lose at this point. And he's letting her know how he feels, and he's not holding back as much like he did last season. He's just letting her know, 'this is how I feel; take it or leave it.'

And I think it just kind of leaves the audience wondering, like okay, now the ball's in Kirsten's court for the first time to decide how she feels with these new emotions, but she's also dealing with these emotions towards Cameron. And it's going to be a question of how long is Cameron willing to wait around for her to figure these things out.

ISHTA: Yeah, will he wait or won't he?

For Kirsten, she's struggling; she's going through a completely different set of challenges this season, and that's figuring out how to deal with all of these emotions that she's started to gain throughout last season, but hasn't really had as strongly since she was eight years old. So all of a sudden she feels all of this stuff, and it's very confusing; it's difficult to manage.

You know, everybody has their whole lives to get used to dealing with how they feel, and that's how part of our childhood is, and being shaped by our parents and all the people around us, and she really hasn't had that time. So for her, there is a lot going on. There're a lot of changes, and she has to figure out where their relationship fits in her heart.

SCIFI VISION: Are there any shippy Camsten scenes that you can hint about?

HARRIS: Absolutely. I just feel that there are like so many moments that will probably leave the audience screaming at their TV, because there are just a lot of things that are left dangling with just like the awkward tension between the two of them now that they know how they feel about each other.

ISHTA: A lot of awkward moments.

HARRIS: Yeah, and it's just a matter of who's going to make that first move to really commit to it, and neither of them are really willing to do that as much as they both know that they want to. So it's kind of, you know, they're playing with fire a little bit, but it definitely leaves you wanting more.

ISHTA: In the fourth episode there's a very funny scene with Tim (Cameron Britton) from engineering - and it's very awkward - that I will enjoy rewatching, because we had a really fun time shooting that one.

SCIFI VISION: With these character changes this season we've been talking about, did you approach it at all differently, or did it just flow easily?

HARRIS: I feel like being with Emma, we just like get along so well off camera, that this season it was fun to actually kind of like play with each other on camera, because now that Kirsten's able to feel and let him in a little more, it's like, 'oh there you are.' And it's nice to kind of take our natural chemistry to these characters and just kind of have fun with each other, more so than last season, where Cameron's just kind of like, 'come on,' and she's like, 'no.' 'Come on.' 'No.' And so this season, we got to play with each other a little more.

ISHTA: We had a lot of conversations, particularly at the beginning of this season, and throughout. Kyle and I have always been having conversations about our characters, where they're going as we get each episode, kind of seeing where the storyline's going.

We have a lot of conversations with our showrunner and creator Jeff [Schechter] as well, and like Kyle said, this season the big change for Kirsten is she's a little more like me as a human being. So it's just been kind of fun to be able to bring more to her in terms of her emotional range and depth and sort of bring their friendship, like Kyle was saying, closer to ours.

And then of course there are scenes that are much more emotional that you spend more time preparing for, but in terms of our characters, I think we just kind of felt our way through with these conversations and dialog and talking to each other.

SCIFI VISION: While I know you can't tell me what it is, is the idea that stitching was created for, or they want to use it for, a different purpose something that they will continue to delve deeper into this season, or is that more like the ultimate question that won't be revealed until the end?

ISHTA: It's there in bits and pieces throughout the season. Kirsten is on a mission to find her father and find some answers, so definitely that comes up throughout the course of the season. It's something that will kind of feature in and out.

HARRIS: Yeah, new characters pop in and out who kind of give you glimpses of who's running this program. And, you know, Maggie starts to kind of gain a little more power, but she is still left in the dark a little bit as to like the overall purpose, but I think that's kind of like the end game, what we're working towards. That is something I think the writers are still kind of slowly uncovering themselves.
